How to Keep Your Glass Shower Doors Clean

Find a Product that Works for You — Many glass cleaning products are available at your local home improvement store or grocery store; however, since some work better than others, a chemical product may not be the product for you. If you haven’t found your perfect fit, you may want to consider using a natural solution, such as white vinegar and baking soda:

STEP 1 — Wet your glass doors with water

STEP 2 — Thoroughly spray the doors with white vinegar and let them sit for 10 minutes

STEP 3 — Dip a soft, clean sponge or cloth into baking soda and scrub the glass in small circular motions

STEP 4 — Rinse with water and dry the surface with a soft microfiber cloth

Or, another effective method for removing lighter cases of soap scum and build-up is lemon juice, and it smells better, too:

STEP 1 — Add a few tablespoons of lemon juice to one cup of water in a spray bottle

STEP 2 — Saturate the glass and wait five minutes

STEP 3— Rinse and use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surface dry

Implement a Daily Maintenance Routine — After you’ve got your glass doors looking crystal clear, it can be challenging to keep them looking that way, especially with regular use of your shower. Thankfully, by implementing a simple daily maintenance routine, you can keep it looking shiny and bright!

  • Use a daily DIY cleaner consisting of 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol, one tablespoon dish soap, and one tablespoon dishwasher rinse aid topped with water in a large spray bottle.
  • Keep a squeegee in your shower to use on all of your glass surfaces after your shower.
  • Wipe the surfaces dry with a microfiber cloth and leave your door open to air out and completely dry.

Use a Long-Term Protection Coating to Your Glass — Apply a hydrophobic coating to the surfaces of your glass shower doors. These products help repel water and build-up from your glass, allowing it to stay cleaner for longer. You can find many different options at your local hardware store. Follow the directions on the back of the bottles for best results.
