Glass That Provides Privacy

Tired of the standard, transparent glass that your home’s windows have been settling for? If you’ve realized that your house deserves better, you don’t have to subject yourself to those dated windows anymore. The types of windows that provide privacy while simultaneously allowing in light are becoming increasingly popular for both homes and businesses alike. While traditional windows and doors that are made of glass allow high amounts of natural light into your home, the issue with them is that strangers can peer into your home.

Privacy glass is both an attractive and clever way to hide the view of rooms. The one-way vision from inside the building that privacy glass allows is brilliant, and you won’t have to sacrifice natural light radiating into your room. Best of all, privacy glass can also be used in other parts of your home, such as for your bathroom’s shower doors.

Translucent Glass

Translucent glass has a frosted appearance and is created by sandblasting or acid-etching clear sheet glass. By creating a marked surface on one side of the pane, the light is diffused and scattered. Images are blurred while still allowing light to pass through. These types of glass windows will enable you to have your much-needed privacy from passerby and neighboring apartments. A frosted glass look can be achieved by applying vinyl film to your translucent glass.

Smoked Glass

Smoked glass is clear, and it doesn’t obscure images, but its darkened color provides people with privacy. One of the many benefits of smoked glass windows is that they can function as a centerpiece in your home. If your home or apartment has black tapware and other black metalwork, then smoked glass windows will complement your home. Additionally, smoked glass windows add a dramatic effect to your abode.

Textured Glass

Textured glass has a pattern or designs impressed into the pane, adding a decorative touch. To your home’s benefit, textured glass obscures images while allowing light to pass through. This type of glass is versatile in that it comes in a range of patterns, and it will contribute to the character of your home.

Colored Glass

Just like smoked glass, colored glass is also crystal clear—but since its tinted with color, privacy is increased. The colors on this type of glass serve as a dramatic focal point for your windows, and they throw a range of colored light onto the surfaces. Colored glass is like a modern version of stained-glass windows.

Switchable Privacy Glass

For those of you who aren’t ready to give up their clear glass, switchable glass is a chic option to consider. Switchable glass is a high-tech product that sounds like a concept straight out of a science fiction film, as it can be switched back and forth between a clear window panel and an opaque one. It has a PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film that can be electrically switched from an off-state (light-scattering opaque) to an on-state (non-scattering or transparent). This can easily be done with the click of a button.
